Terms of Use and License
Privacy · Cookies · Terms · Your privacy choices · Privacy requests
Last updated: October 18, 2026. By downloading, installing or playing Taikyoku Shogi, or using taikyokushogi.com, you agree to these terms. If you buy the game through Steam, the Mac App Store, the App Store or Google Play, that store's terms also apply, and where they conflict they come first.
1. License
Taikyoku Shogi is licensed, not sold, to you for personal, non-commercial use. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and play it on devices you own or control. The released game is a paid product, sold as a license through Steam and the Apple stores (price to be announced). Beta builds are a free preview for testers: a beta is not a purchase and grants no license to the final game.
2. What you may not do
- Copy, redistribute, sell, rent or sublicense the game, a beta build, or its art, music, voice, text or data.
- Reverse engineer, decompile or modify the game or its server, except where the law allows it despite this term.
- Cheat online, automate play to harass or overload the server, probe it for weaknesses without our written permission, or impersonate others.
- Use an offensive or personal display name.
We can limit or end online access for anyone who breaks these rules.
3. Beta software
Limited beta builds are unfinished. They may have bugs, lose saved data, change or be shut down at any time, and online play may require you to update before your next move. We may stop the beta, or refuse old builds, without notice.
4. Online play
Online play is provided "as is". Games run on our server, which can restart. Public games may be watched by other players. See the Privacy Policy.
5. Ownership
Copyright © 2026 Keith Adler. All rights reserved. Inspired by Allen Adler. The game's piece names, setup and move notation come from the English Wikipedia article "Taikyoku shogi" (CC BY-SA 4.0) and remain under that license. The game is built with the Godot Engine (MIT). Music, voice, sound effects and paintings were produced with AI tools (Suno, ElevenLabs, OpenArt) under their terms.
6. Refunds
Refunds for purchases are handled by the store where you bought the game under its policy (for example Steam's two-hours-played / 14-day rule, or Apple's and Google's refund processes). Nothing here limits your statutory consumer rights, including withdrawal rights in the EU/UK and Japan's Consumer Contract Act.
7. Disclaimer and limits
To the fullest extent the law allows, the game and website are provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, loss of data, or loss of profits. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the game (or US$10 if you paid nothing). Some places do not allow these limits; where they do not apply, your local law governs.
8. Termination
You may stop at any time by deleting the game. We may end your license if you break these terms. Sections that by nature should survive (ownership, disclaimers, limits) do.
9. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and disputes will be heard in the state or federal courts of California, except that consumers in the EU/UK, Japan and other places keep any mandatory right to use their local courts and local consumer law.
10. Changes and contact
We may update these terms; the date above shows the latest version, and continued use means you accept it. Questions: hello@taikyokushogi.com.
